HighGround UK helps veterans work out how their military skills and experience map into land-based jobs. They said: “Support from Lloyd’s Veterans Charity has been instrumental in allowing us to focus time and resources improving how we engage with female veterans. We have developed stronger relationships with both our military sector and land-based business partners, and proactively engaged with female veterans to better understand the unique obstacles they encounter. We have experienced some challenges during the last year, but your support is helping us to adapt how we promote and run our services to better meet female veterans’ needs.
“A supplementary grant from LVC provided additional funds to run a female-only Rural Week which took place in July 2025. This was a fantastic opportunity to get to know participants well, and hear about their experiences of both serving in the military and transitioning to civilian life.”
Here’s what some of them said:
Army Physiotherapist: “I’ve been a physiotherapist in the military for almost 15 years, and didn’t know that my skills could be transferred to opportunities in the rural sector. It makes sense that farmers and horse people would need what I do, but I like the idea of training in animal physiotherapy as well – I didn’t know that type of work existed!”
Leading Hand, Royal Navy: “I’m going to do an agricultural course, but have been a little worried about how men would react to me. It’s been great to make contact with really positive female role models.”
RAF Chief Technician in resettlement: “As a veteran, knowing about the many different roles out there for us in is key. HighGround’s Virtual Rural Week gives an informative insight into a completely different area of employment. I have already recommended this to a number of co-workers who are due to leave the service in the next year or so.”
